In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
members of different mother tongues
gather together more and more commonly
all over the world.
Members of different mother tongues
want to know each other,
make friends,
and serve each other,
they need to have a common language-English.
Since I came to Zhubei Ward in July 2018,
I have found that
my church call
and my desire to get along with foreign members
require me to strengthen my English proficiency.
Since then, two years passed;
I have been working hard to strengthen my English proficiency.
Although, at present, my English proficiency
is still quite far from the goal I set,
I must thank God
for helping me make some progress
so that I have the motivation
to continue to work hard.
Today I will be talking in English
to let foreign friends know that
all of the local members, like me,
want to know you better,
have a more in-depth friendship with you,
and provide you with better services.
In short, I want you to know we love you.
May God helps me that
my particular way of talking today
could express our love for you more clearly.
The topic of my speech today is prayer of faith.
What is prayer of faith?
Prayer of faith is:
The purpose of our prayers is not to hope that
God does something for us,
but to know what God wants us to do.
Before we pray, we believe that
Heavenly Father will listen to our prayers.
Before we pray, we believe that
Heavenly Father will answer our prayers.
Before we pray, we make up our minds
to follow the Father’s instructions
that answer our prayers,
no matter how difficult they would be.
President Nelson has designated this year
as “a bicentennial period commemorating 200 years
since God the Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ,
appeared to Joseph Smith in a vision.”
President Nelson invited us
to make a personal plan
to prepare ourselves for this historic conference,
which commemoration he said
would be “a hinge point in the history of the Church,
and your part is vital.”
President Eyring said, (quote) like me,
perhaps you heard his message and asked yourself,
“In what way is my part vital?” (end quote)
As we remember Jesus Christ always,
we might ask in prayer,
“What would He have me do?”
Such prayer,
offered in faith in Jesus Christ,
by Prophet Joseph Smith,
ushered in this last dispensation.
And it will be at the heart
of the part each of us will play
in its continuing unfolding.
President Eyring said, (qoute) As we pray in faith,
we become a vital part in the Lord’s work
as He prepares the world for His Second Coming. (end quotte)
When we pray in faith,
learn of Heavenly Father's will for us,
and do His will,
we become a vital part of His work.
Years ago, there was a video for the Seminars.
In this film, there was a young man who walked into a theater.
A story was on the stage with kings, queens, guards, and some others.
While the young man was enchanted with the story,
a man behind the stage curtain
lifted a corner of the curtain,
beckoning to the young man anxiously,
and wanted to tell him something important.
When the young man approached him,
he grabbed the young man's hand tightly
and said, "It's your turn to play. Hurry up!"
The young man said confusedly,
"I just come to watch the show!"
The man said: "Everyone who comes here
is supposed to be an actor!"
The young man then asked,
"What about my script?"
Brothers and sisters,
our Heavenly Father has prepared a salvation plan for us.
We come to the theater of this life.
No one comes to watch the play.
Each of us is an indispensable actor in this salvation plan.
Maybe we, like that young man, can't help but ask:
"What about my script?"
The script of our life is with our Heavenly Father,
who wrote a successful script for each of us.
Unless we pray in faith to our Heavenly Father to know His will,
we cannot know what we should do in each moment,
and how to do it.
If we rely only on our understandings and abilities,
we cannot get the full blessings
that our Heavenly Father wants to give us.
Each of us is a protagonist on the stage of our life.
We want to become someone or get something.
To get what we want,
we must complete what we need to do.
For example, we want to be an excellent athlete.
We need to know the correct training method
and do our best according to that method.
We may have external obstacles.
For example, we need to have good sports ground,
but we do not have one.
We may have internal obstacles.
For example, we are lazy and unwilling to work hard.
Temptations or challenges may come to us.
Our wrong choice may cause us to delay, give up, or go astray.
At any moment in our life,
when setting the desired goal,
when encountering any obstacles, temptations, or challenges,
we must pray in faith
and ask the Father to guide us.
In this way, we live the gospel by communicating with God.
Our prayers in faith, our acts in faith, and our testimonies
are vital parts of the gospel's continuous restoration.
Every prayer of faith is the beginning and progress of every story
we associate with God.
Our lives will eventually have a happy ending
that our Heavenly Father has promised.
Brothers and sisters.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is true.
When we pray in faith to our Heavenly Father
in the name of Jesus Christ
and seek His will, the Father will answer our prayers.
When we do, according to Heavenly Father's will,
we will receive the blessings He has promised.
I so testify, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
